Refugee and Humanitarian Resettlement Program
Refugee Claim is made outside Canada (must be referred by UNHCR, designated referral organization or private sponsor) under the 1) Convention Refugee Abroad Class or 2) Country of Asylum Class.
In-Canada Asylum Program
Refugee Claim is made inside Canada at the port of entry or at an IRCC office.
The IRB will decide if you are a Convention refugee or a person in need of protection.
*Note: if your refugee claim is denied, you may be refused any subsequent temporary status applications (student, worker, visa).
