One of Canada’s major measures has been to implement travel restrictions between March 18 and June 30, however Canada is still exempting certain permanent and temporary residents from the restrictions so that they can enter the country.

IRCC has confirmed that the following individuals are among those who can still come to Canada between now and June 30. IRCC has asked that exempted individuals continue to monitor the federal government's website before they book their return travel to Canada

International student graduates who are waiting on a Post-Graduation Work Permit decision may now leave Canada and maintain their eligibility to work full time once they return. International student graduates will no longer need to remain in Canada while their Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is in process.

IRCC is being more lenient for those unable to submit a complete application for permanent residence before the deadline, allowing an additional 90 days in some cases. Contact us if you require assistance.

Canada is temporarily cancelling all citizenship ceremonies, as well as knowledge testing and retesting events. These events will be rescheduled «in the near future» but IRCC has not given a date as to when they will reopen. Those who are affected by cancellations will be provided with a new date and time in the coming weeks.

Foreign nationals who are in Canada and whose temporary resident status will soon expire may apply for an extension to maintain their status. Temporary residents wishing to extend must apply online, meet all requirements, and pay associated fees.

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) Employer Job Offer category allows immigrants with a job offer to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence. They can apply in Canada or from abroad, as long as they have been hired for a permanent position with an Ontario employer.

Canada's immigration department also released new instructions for officials and immigrants affected by COVID-19, on Sunday, March 15. IRCC announced they will be cancelling all citizenship ceremonies, citizenship tests and retests, and itinerant service trips until further notice.

However, the Employer Job Offer category is not the only option for foreigners who want to immigrate to Ontario. The OINP Human Capital Category does not necessarily require candidates to have a job offer in the province. It includes sub-categories for both international student graduates and foreign workers.
